James H. Barnett, Certified Shiatsu Practitioner

Jim Barnett is a Certified Shiatsu Practitioner with 640 hours of formal education at Zen Shiatsu Chicago in Evanston, IL and is a member of the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA). His training includes additional background in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), moxabustion, Thai Massage, Sotai and anatomy & physiology. He also possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the University of Illinois and has worked in the graphic arts field for over 23 years in management.

Having worked in a fast-paced and highly demanding position for many years, he began to realize that his work was not spiritually rewarding. So he formalized his training in the area of eastern healing arts that he had been fascinated with for over 30 years. Jim brings to his practice a warmth & great understanding of the individual's needs, both physically and spiritually. His 23 years of experience dealing with daily stress combines with a deep interest in the natural healing arts to provide an alternative to massage therapy for individuals with poor circulation, respiratory/sinus problems, constipation/digestion troubles, neck, shoulder and back pain, fibromyalgia, headache, migraine, depression, fatigue, insomnia and stress-related problems. Shiatsu is also a great style of massage for general stress relief and relaxation.

Lotus Way Shiatsu Clinic offers two locations:  in Westmont just minutes by car from the communities of Downers Grove, Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, Oak Brook, Darien and more; and in Evanston within easy reach of Wilmette, Glenview, Lincolnwood, Skokie, Morton Grove and northside Chicago .

yingyang.jpg
Chinese symbol of Yin/Yang

Yin and Yang are what we bodyworkers strive so hard to bring into harmony with one another. Smile

This Symbol(Yin-Yang) represents the ancient Chinese understanding of how things work. The outer circle represents "everything", while the black and white shapes within the circle represent the interaction of two energies, called "yin" (black) and "yang" (white), which cause everything to happen. They are not completely black or white, just as things in life are not completely black or white, and they cannot exist without each other (mutually engendering). Notice that within the yang, there is a seed of yin & similarly within the yin, there is a seed of yang (the small circles in the diagram).

While "yin" is associated with things dark, passive, downward, cold, contracting, and weak, "yang" is bright, active, upward, hot, expanding, and strong. The shape of the yin and yang portions of the symbol actually gives you a sense of the continual movement of these two energies, yin to yang and yang to yin;  just as things expand and contract, and temperature changes from hot to cold. The health of a person relates to the proper balance & flow of yin & yang into & out of each other. Shiatsu strives to remove blockages in this flow to improve health & general wellbeing.
